What would a trip be without a mad dash for a bus, a train or an airplane? We thought we had everything well planned but… we ended up dashing from our hostel to the train station motivated by panic. We forgot that we would have to negotiate border security and that we needed to be in line a minimum of thirty before boarding. Kathryn and Noah ran ahead to get to the ticket window to claim the tickets, while I followed up with Sam. Well, Sam and I ended up at the wrong place. It took me a few minutes to realize that I needed to ask for directions to another building entirely. Once there I entered the wrong doors and set off on a chase to find the ticket window. Meanwhile Noah and Kathryn waited outside the main doors becoming increasing stressed because we weren’t arriving. Noah stood on precariously on a suitcase obtain a better vantage and when this wasn’t enough he ran to two other building looking for us. Noah may have run the fastest six hundred meters he has ever run. As a last-ditch effort Noah when back to the ticket window and miraculously we arrived. That was leg one.

Leg Two was just as hectic, involving two line ups and several sprints for the train which we boarded with minutes to spare. The only saving grace was that we were alone, several other families took part in the “Eurostar Run”. We were given a shortcut through the first screening lineup and collected our bags. We were in the line to show our passports when the final call for the 8:55 train to Amsterdam came. Once again kind ushers pushed us through to boarder security and luckily we encountered no problems and we ran for our train. We were on the train and seated just as train departed. Although there isn’t much to see, but we can say we did travel by Chunnel. We arrived in Brussel’s two hours later, have a calm 1km suitcase stroll to our hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed Brussels and we interested in exploring the city further. We accomplished most of the recommendations we were given, eat fries, drink beer, see the peeing boy, eat waffles, get pooped on by a pigeon and eat chocolate. In fact, we were just finishing our fries at the a place recommended by the person in the chocolate shop when Kathryn was surprised by pigeon. We just had a brief glimpse of Brussels but our highlight was choosing the chocolate, Noah and Sam were in heaven and we had wonderful sales person.
